About Toastmasters
Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Headquartered in Englewood, Colo., the organization’s membership exceeds 300,000 in more than 15,800 clubs in 149 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders.
The first unofficial Toastmasters meeting was held on March 24, 1905. Then, much like Toastmasters meetings today, participants took turns leading and speaking at each meeting.
Today, Toastmasters is an important partner for businesses and communities. Through a robust education program, Toastmasters provides opportunities to gain both experience and confidence in presentations/public speaking, and grow in leadership, knowledge, and volunteerism.

About District 39 Toastmasters
The mission of District 39 is to enhance the performance and extend the network of North Central California and Eastern Nevada, thereby offering greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program by:
- Focusing on the critical success factors to meet the District’s educational and membership goals
- Ensuring that each Club effectively fulfills its responsibilities to its members
- Providing effective training and leadership development opportunities for Club and District officers
Following are brief descriptions of the various aspects that makeup District 39:
Members
Clubs
Areas
Area Directors provide training and assistance to help clubs achieve their Distinguished Club Program goals. As such, it is strongly recommended that members serve as a Club President or Vice President Education before being appointed to an Area Director position.
Divisions
Division Directors meet regularly with their Area Directors and help coordinate with other District resources to ensure Area Directors have the resources they need to support their clubs. Division Directors also work closely with the District Club Extension team to conduct orientation and new club organizing efforts.
District Leaders
District leaders are measured by four critical success factors as defined by Toastmasters International: net member growth, net club growth, educational achievements and leadership achievements.
