2024 District 39 Spring Conference – Reach for the Stars!

Who’s ready to shimmer like a supernova and “Reach for the Stars” at this year’s conference? Listen to a special message from Past International President, Richard E. Peck below… he will be attending the conference IN PERSON and shares why YOU should join him!

  Here is a peek at what’s in store for this exciting event:

Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18, 2024

  Friday, May 17 – “The Sky’s the Limit: All Characters Welcome”

The conference traditionally kicks off with Friday Fun Night, and this year is no exception!  The evening will feature:

  • A costume contest – just because! You are encouraged (but not required) to come dressed as your favorite celebrity, a beloved fictional character or in any fun outfit.  Whether you emulate Jack Nicholson, Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk or Jack in the Box, have some fun and get creative!  Remember, the sky’s the limit and all characters are welcome.
  • An improv session hosted by Improv Impact! Hone your impromptu speaking skills and laugh along the way as you engage in improv games and scenes.
  • Interactive games, music and fun
  • A hearty Little Italy Buffet dinner including Sicilian Prosciutto Chicken, two types of pasta and two sauces, two salads, grilled fresh vegetables, rolls and butter, fresh baked cookies, and soft drinks/water. Mangia!
  • Registration begins at 5:15 pm, dinner is served at 6:00 pm.

 

  Saturday, May 18 – “Reach for the Stars!”

Toastmasters, come alive!  You’re in for a full day of exciting activities:

  • A Past District Director/Past District Governor gathering begins at 8:10 am
  • Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:30 am. Kickstart your morning with pastries, bagels with cream cheese and jams, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, juice and coffee.
  • Starting at 9:00 am, see your club highlighted in the in-person and virtual Parade of Banners.
  • The District 39 Evaluation Contest.
  • Purchase Toastmasters merchandise at Shop 39
  • Enter raffle drawings for “must have” baskets filled with a variety of treasures. (You must be present to win).
  • A tasty lunch featuring your choice of an assortment of deli sandwiches, Mediterranean pasta salad, chips, cookies and soft drinks/water.
  • An illuminating in-person keynote presentation from Past International President, Richard E. Peck, DTM, “Finding Light in the Darkness.”
  • Our own District 39’s David Goad, DTM, shares his insights on “Earning Trust” in this interactive enrichment session.
  • Richard E. Peck, DTM, provides inspiration and practical strategies with his workshop “SOAR to Success.”
  • Cheer for members and clubs who are recognized for their achievements.
  • Feast on the Hawaiian Luau Buffet including smoked pork and roasted chicken, rice, field greens, grilled fresh vegetables, tropical fruit salad, rolls and butter, assorted cookies, and soft drinks/water. Aloha!
  • The evening concludes with the shining gem: the District 39 International Speech Contest!

  TOASTMASTERS GOT TALENT – FRIDAY FUN NIGHT

Do you have a talent you’d like to showcase at Friday Fun Night?  We’re seeking singers, dancers, musicians, comedians, sketch performers, jugglers, poets, magicians, unicycle riders, lion tamers, fire eaters… well, maybe those last few are setting the expectations a bit too high.

 

If you have a 3-4 minute act, we’re interested!  You can be a solo performer or team up with other Toastmasters for your time to shine onstage.  Please contact Trish Berlant.  Acts must be vetted and confirmed by NO LATER THAN Thursday, May 9 (deadline extended).

 

  RAFFLE BASKET DONATIONS REQUESTED FROM CLUBS

Calling all clubs!  We are requesting donations of baskets containing goodies that will be raffled off to lucky winners. (All proceeds help offset conference expenses).  Examples of basket items/themes:

  • Beauty/pampering basket
  • Movie night basket
  • Toastmasters merchandise
  • Gardener’s goodies
  • Coffee lover’s basket
  • Automotive enthusiast
  • Foodie treats
  • Gift cards
  • Handyman’s basket
  • Golf/football/soccer/baseball/sports themed basket
  • Yoga/exercise/fitness basket

  HELPERS NEEDED FOR COMMITTEES

An event of this size and scope has lots of moving parts and requires lots of helpers to make it a success!  Please give of your time and support one or more of the following Committees:

Audio/Video – (Friday afternoon: help unload equipment from vehicles onto a dolly, unload in ballroom.  Saturday evening: help break down equipment, load onto dolly, place in vehicles).  Contact David Betowski or Pat Knight

Decorations – (help set up on Friday afternoon and help clean up on Saturday evening).  Contact Chibwe Chungu or Ann Rose

  HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

The District has reserved a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 9175 W. Stockton Boulevard, Elk Grove – a quick 5-minute drive from the conference venue.  Rates vary depending on the dates of your stay, but range from $159-$189 per night and include breakfast and parking. 

IMPORTANT: This Toastmasters group rate is only available through SUNDAY, MAY 5 and is on a first come, first served basis.  If you book after May 5, rates are subject to change.
