What is a Herb Yarbrough Award?

“Back in 1886-87 when I was DG, Lloyd Gavin, the LGE and I wanted to present an award to a deserving Toastmaster, who has not eligible for Area Or Division Governor, or Outstanding Toastmaster. At that time Herb Yarbrough was in falling health and we thought it would be a nice gesture to name the award after him. And in fact he was the first recipient. Herb was well known through out our region as “Mr Toastmaster” and we felt that an award named after him would be a fitting gesture.

Presentation of the award is an opportunity for the DD to recognize someone who has performed above and beyond for the district, and may not be widely known. Possible someone in the trenches that has been very supporting of your year and the district.  From my memory those who have selected for this award have been deeply honored to have recognized.”

“The award is presented to a Toastmaster who has given “sustained service” to the district and upholds the ideals of Toastmasters. It was initiated in 1987 in honor of past district governor Herb Yarbrough.  Awarded by the current district governor at the spring conference, the choice is based on the DG/DD plus his/her advisors’ evaluation of prospective awardees.  At the award ceremony, the awardee’s accomplishments are announced to much public acclaim!”
